Kroger Fulfillment Center in Pleasant Prairie Gets a New Buyer |
Flexport will take over the former Kroger facility in Pleasant Prairie |
A major Pleasant Prairie industrial site won't be empty for long.
The former Kroger fulfillment center on Highway H has officially found a new tenant in a remarkably quick turnaround.
Global logistics company Flexport is set to take over the facility, breathing new life into the building following its recent vacancy.
The move comes just months after Kroger abruptly closed its highly automated grocery delivery operation.
That sudden closure was a significant blow to the local economy, resulting in the loss of over 200 jobs.
However, the arrival of Flexport represents a promising pivot and a net positive for the community.
The new company plans to create 300 full-time positions, more than replacing the jobs that were previously eliminated.
According to documents filed with the village, these workers will be spread across two shifts, seven days a week.
The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission is scheduled to review the site and operational plans shortly.
While no exterior changes are planned, the interior will be significantly modified to suit Flexport’s needs.
The specialized refrigeration systems and meat-packing room from the Kroger era are set to be removed.
This transition solidifies the building's new purpose as an e-commerce and freight forwarding hub.
For local residents, the swift reoccupation is a welcome sign of economic resilience and growth.
The project underscores Pleasant Prairie’s strategic importance in the regional supply chain corridor. |
