From the Lake

Friday, Kenosha. Long weekend ahead — and this one means something. Pour the coffee. We've got ceremonies, a Master Chief worth knowing, road closures worth dodging, and a Real Talk that earns its name. Five minutes, top to bottom.

The celebrated Kenosha HarborMarket is officially returning to the lakefront, signaling the start of the summer season.

This beloved European-style market takes place every Saturday along 2nd Avenue, nestled beside Kenosha's picturesque museums.

This year, the market introduces a new weekly theme, Savor Saturdays, which offers free family-friendly activities.

These events include art projects led by Lemon Street Gallery, cooking demonstrations from local chefs, and story times.

With well over 100 small businesses participating, the market remains a bustling hub for everything from artisan cheese and local produce to handcrafted gifts.

It’s more than just a place to shop; it's a weekly celebration of our community’s vibrant spirit.

The Kenosha Public Library’s Bookmobile will also be a regular feature, making this cherished tradition an experience that truly defines Saturdays in our city.

Kenosha County is preparing to honor its fallen heroes with a full slate of Memorial Day events this weekend.

From solemn ceremonies to community parades, residents will have numerous opportunities to reflect and remember.

Observances begin Saturday with a family event at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library in Somers.

On Monday, morning services are planned at Navy Park, hosted by Navy Club Ship 40, and at Green Ridge Cemetery, organized by American Legion Post 21.

Parades will bring communities like Silver Lake and Twin Lakes together for public displays of honor.

Later in the day, a notable ceremony at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park will include a reading of names and a moving dove release.

These varied events underscore our community's deep commitment to honoring military sacrifice and the true cost of freedom.

A major industrial site in Pleasant Prairie won't be vacant for long.

Global logistics firm Flexport is officially set to take over the former Kroger fulfillment center on Highway H, marking a remarkably quick turnaround for the property.

The move comes just months after Kroger’s abrupt closure of its automated grocery operation, a decision that resulted in the loss of over 200 local jobs.

Flexport’s arrival, however, represents a significant boost for the local economy.

The company plans to create 300 full-time positions, more than replacing the jobs that were recently eliminated.

The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission is now scheduled to review the site and operational plans.

While no exterior changes are planned, the interior will be refitted for e-commerce and freight forwarding.

This swift reoccupation is a promising sign of economic resilience and growth for the community.

Guests can explore a contemporary American menu where every dish is created with a specific wine pairing in mind, making it an elevated yet approachable experience for foodies and wine lovers alike.

The much-anticipated opening is a significant addition to the area's growing commercial landscape and is poised to become a major local draw, with spacious indoor seating and a large outdoor patio.
