Jun 4, 2026For nearly five decades, the U.S. Taekwondo Academy has been a pillar of the Kenosha community, representing a family's enduring legacy.
The journey began with the late Grandmaster Koang Woong Kim, a pioneer who brought the martial art from Korea to the United States.
After a path that led through Germany and Chicago, he and his family chose Kenosha to establish their school in 1978.
His vision was to instill values like discipline, respect, and self-confidence in students.
Today, that profound mission is proudly carried forward by his son, second-generation Grandmaster Jon Kim.
The academy has become a community cornerstone, shaping the character of thousands of local students and teaching generations of families.
For countless residents, the story of taekwondo in Kenosha is inseparable from the dedication of the Kim family.
